The full corn moon for September 2020, not the harvest moon

Sometimes the September moon is known as the “harvest Moon,” but that is not always the case, Farmers’ Almanac reports.

This year the September full moon will be known as the “corn moon,” while the “harvest Moon” will arrive in October. The month of October will also bring a rare blue moon (two moons in the same month) occurring on the 31st, Halloween.

Moon names in the US are typically based upon Native American names. “Corn moon” was a name Native Americans used as an indicator that it was time to harvest the corn.

The “harvest Moon,” was a moon that occurred closer to the autumnal equinox.

Complicating matters further, depending on the year, and when the phase of the moon falls, it can be both, CNN reports.

Current planet positions:

Horoscopes for September 2:

Astrologer Patrick Arundell writes: “Today’s Full Moon in Pisces shimmers with promise and can enhance our ability to dream and fantasize and our creative inspiration. It can also skew our perception of reality which means this is not the best time to commit to something or make a spur-of-the-moment decision.”

Astrologer Aria Gmitter of Your Tango, writes: “Wednesday’s Full Moon in Pisces will also harmonize with fortunate Jupiter in the zodiac sign of Capricorn, so there may also be positive surprises involving work or your public status. Some zodiac signs may receive job offers in vocations that are completely different than what they currently do for work. Venus in Cancer opposes Saturn in Capricorn, so be frugal right now with spending, especially when it comes to buying things for the home.”

Astrologer Nadia Gilchrist of Ruby Slipper Astrology unpacks the implications of Venus in Cancer opposite Saturn retrograde in Capricorn. Gilchrist writes: “Here is the defined conclusion to a relationship, financial or self-esteem issue. Issues of neediness, helplessness or nostalgia are challenged by limits that enforce self-reliance.” She adds: “Saturn is harsh, but the lesson is always about looking after yourself. Become your own parent or navigate the parental dynamics in a relationship with maturity… You’re responsible for you.”
